FEATURED ARTIST: LORRAINE SHAW

Lorraine Shaw is a self-taught artist who was born and raised in Yorkshire, England where she lived until her early 40s when she came on holiday to Canada. "I fell in love with the place and the people and decided this is where I wanted to live," she says. She moved to Nairn Centre with her family and bought Silver Maple Campground and has been there ever since. "The summers are crazy busy between the campground and my garden which I am usually in by about 6am every morning but the winters left me with lots of time on my hands so about 5 years ago I started drawing." She started with graphite drawings but soon decided she wanted to learn a lot more. She moved on to colour pencils which is now her main medium but she also decided to try watercolour paintings and recently tried pastels. "I love them all," says Lorraine. "I love painting and drawing any subjects but especially all types of animals and wildlife to landscapes, old buildings and the occasional portrait."
